Safety in Storage and Transportation of Hydrogen in MEG’s

A flurry of hydrogen generation systems is leading to significant conversion to this clean form of energy. Utility company infrastructure has excess pipeline capacity. However, new users represent a diverse, widespread network. Hydrogen delivery to them by pipelines is not feasible. Their geographic diversity requires mobile transportation of high-pressure hydrogen. To maximize the amount of Hydrogen transported, composite cylinders on trailers are the preferred solution to traditional steel tube transportation of Hydrogen.
Demand varies widely. First time users and pilot plant scale initial demonstration users require small amounts of Hydrogen. Industrial users may require large quantities. BayoTech offers a large range of solutions to cater to these widely varying demands and can mobilize the fuel community to use Hydrogen. One of the more popular solutions for the high pressure Hydrogen transportation is an Multi Element Gas containers (MEG) using a trailer.
Safety in transportation is a multi-faceted responsibility. In the design of the trailers BayoTech has spent many years in developing the solutions to fit the diverse needs of the users. In this presentation the key components making up a trailer – cylinders, pod frame, valves, etc., will be presented. The balance of plant in using different type of cylinders and their safety features are touched upon. The customers’ role in transporting Hydrogen is critical. Their routine equipment checks ensure the safe and commercially viable transportation of hydrogen will be shared. This presentation will provide a first look at the different dimensions of safety in the high-pressure transport of hydrogen.
