Catherine (Catie) Brewer earned a B.S. in Chemistry from the Robert E. Cook Honors College at Indiana University of Pennsylvania. She is currently a PhD Candidate in Chemical Engineering and Biorenewable Resources & Technology with a minor in Soil Science at Iowa State University and is a National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellow. Catie does her research on engineering biochar at ISU’s Center for Sustainable Environmental Technologies (CSET) in collaboration with several research groups from the Agronomy, Chemistry and Horticulture departments. Her doctoral dissertation focuses on the biochar characterization to relate chars’ production conditions to their suitability for soil amendment and carbon sequestration applications.
