Cheryl gained 37 years of technical and leadership experience in the oil and gas industry in the areas of hazard and risk management, fire protection engineering, and management of process safety. She retired as the VP Process Safety in BP’s Group Safety & Operational Risk team where she was an advocate for process safety across BP working to set requirements, provide assurance and provide deep technical experience. Prior to joining BP, Cheryl worked with Mobil and ExxonMobil Corporations where she held a number of Process Safety Engineering positions in Refining & Marketing and International Exploration & Production providing process safety engineering and risk management support to existing facilities and major capital projects, worldwide. After ExxonMobil, Ms. Grounds worked with Baker Engineering and Risk Consultants - again focusing on process safety and risk management. Cheryl is a Certified Safety Professional (1990 – 2019) and a licensed Professional Engineer. She is a Fellow of both the CCPS and AIChE, is a CCPSC, and is a CCPS Emeritus member. She has been actively supporting CCPS for many years as a Planning Committee member, on the Advisory Board, and on many projects incuding Vision 20/20, More Incidents that Define Process Safety, Human Performance, and Process Safety in Upstream Oil and Gas.
