V V Suryarau is a chemical engineer from the Indian Institute of Technology Madras. Heaving graduated in 1965 he had a brief stint in Egypt at Alexandria Petroleum Company in the refinery as a student trainee. He has started his career at a PVC polymer plant in Mumbai and later joined multinational company National Organic Chemical Industries limited (NOCIL) in 1967 as the first management trainee of the first Petrochemical complex built in partnership with SHELL. He joined as a management trainee in Butadiene Benzene plants progressed into the Naphtha cracker and was assigned to SHELL chemicals at Pernis , Netherlands ,in the Ethylene Oxide and Derivatives Plants in 1973-1975. He held subsequently the position of Plant Manager of Ethylene oxide and utilities at , plant manager of PVC complex before moving into Marketing petrochemicals as the Branch manager. He moved as manufacturing manager in commissioning the green sites plant for manufacture of Pesticides. Subsequently he held the position of Chief of Operations for the Petrochemicals for 4 years before going to SHELL for exposure at headquarters in the Hague. He was the senior advisor for safety in SHELL Chemicals and has travelled extensively auditing various plants in Holland Germany, Brazil, France and China. He took over as Works manager for petrochemicals and Agrochemicals and later on as Director works on board of NOCIL
After 30 years at NOCIL he moved over to Reliance Industries limited as President Patalganga and was associated with the setting up of the world’s largest Grass roots Refinery at Jamnagar. He is currently the President Group manufacturing Services rendering expert services to all manufacturing sites and governing on behalf of Owners. He is also the HSEF missionary.
