Process Safety Management Systems
Monday, August 8, 2011 - 2:30pm to 3:00pm
Most decisions faced by owners and operators of facilities in the chemical, oil and gas industries are difficult and complex. Some of the most challenging decisions involve EHS risk issues which often require tradeoffs and involve emotional issues surrounding personnel safety or protection of environment. Many organizations design processes and provide tools to help their managers:
- Focus on what’s important
- Balance subjective and objective factors that influence decisions
- Blend analytical and intuitive thinking
- Utilize the “right” amount of information and analysis needed to make the decision
The goal is to create a process that can produce consistent results, is transparent, and defendable. This paper provides an overview of available decision-making tools and methodologies along with case studies illustrating how they are developed and employed at different levels in the organization.
