- Introductión.
Petrochemical of Venezuela, Pequiven S.A., is an oriented processing of natural gas in petrochemical product, in order to ensure the application of industrial enterprises in the country and in the international market company. It is located within the Oil and Petrochemical Complex General Jose Antonio Anzoátegui which occupies approximately 740 hectares where you have also installed mixtures plants such as: Superoctanos, Metor, Supermetanol and Fertinitro.
In the Petrochemical Complex Jose Antonio Anzoátegui, Pequiven has plants for water treatment service (industrial and potable), electric service through the electrical substation, maritime terminal for the export of Ammonia, Urea, Methanol, MTBE and Isooctanes, and other facilities such as administrative offices, fire services, intercomunication systems, industrial medical facility, maintenance and all to meet the needs of the condominium.
The Maritime Terminal of Pequiven has been dedicated to serve the petrochemical area of the Petrochemical Complex Jose Antonio Anzoategui, with an initial phase "Phase I" of Petrochemical Platform (Platform of Liquids) with two docks (east side and west side), a Platform for handling bulk Urea (east side), a Platform for the handling of Containers (west side) and a Service Platform (east side). A future phase "Phase II", consisting of a second Petrochemical Platform with two docks (C and D), and a platform for handling containers.
Currently the liquid platform is capable of receiving vessels for the transport of chemicals of up to 65,000 deadweight tons (DWT) for both docks, for the export and import of petrochemical products, such as: Ammonia, Methanol and MTBE, and in a next phase others like ethylene, Propylene, Mono / Di / Tri-ethylene Glycol, Hexanes, as part of Phase II of the maritime terminal project. This means that, so far, ten (10) marine loading arms that must be installed on this platform, have been installed the following loading arms:
.- Loading Arm 05-MLA-0501 for dispatch of ammonia from Nitrogen Fertilizer of Venezuela, Fertinitro CEC
.- Load Arm 05-MLA-0502 for dispatch of MTBE and Isooctane from the Super Octane CA Company.
.- Load Arm 05-MLA-0503 for dispatch of Methanol from the company Methanol Oriente.SA, Metor.
.- Load Arm 05-MLA-0504 for dispatch of Methanol from the company Super Methanol C.A.
Importantly, the platform of liquids account all the services necessary for this operation, electricity, water supply, service water, instrument air, nitrogen, and the necessary safety systems, detection and fire fighting and system as the detection of toxic and flammable gases.
Process streams that are handled in the dock have toxic and flammable properties, particularly in regard to liquid streams; and in some cases they may form a hazardous mixture with a certain proportion of air. The chemicals that, for their transport conditions and potential effects on health of personnel working on the dock facility, or visitors, are ammonia (toxic) and in case of the environmental effects, the methanol (Flammable).
In this sense, motivated by operating conditions and hazardous materials handled at the marine loading arms, these equipments are considered high risk, so the estimation and analysis of consequences associated with the jet fire of Methanol due to leakage in the valve HV-05-071 associated with the marine loading arm 05-MLA-0504, located on the platform of liquid of the Pequiven Marine Terminal, within the Petrochemical Complex Jose Antonio Anzoategui, using the simulation tool PHAST 6.7
