Inherently Safe Design is an ideal way to eliminate or reduce Process Safety Risk of a Major Catastrophic Incident. Fully-rated Equipment Design selection is an ideal way to handle many Causes of Overpressure and Embrittlement concerns that may result in a Loss of Containment. However, Designers are advised to use caution and base analysis on a full Process Operating Envelope with respective Safeguard Considerations. The Risks and mitigations should be considered with CAPEX and OPEX before settling on a design. A Case Study will be presented specifically with respect to a Flare Design to show the Understanding of Inherently Safe Design Vis-a-Vis other optimum Designs. A Matrix of Risk, Options and Cost with Each Design will facilitate decision making and selected Design of the Equipment for the Facility.
