Small scale experimentar work involving the sudden and totar failure of vessels containing pressurised riquids has red to the generation of information and data concerning the two phase releases produced. Vessel failure is simulaied using two experinental techniques and the importance of "ãilure mode" observed. Experimental Data is presented, trends within the rereases are described and some simpre empiricat expressions are derived. The work has led to the development of unique measurement systems that can be applied to Lrger scale experiments with ease.
