He started out as in inorganic chemist, came to ExxonMobil over twenty years ago, and has spent much of that time working in the field of catalysis on refining and chemical projects, with some focus on light alkane activation and conversions. He has also been involved with various separations programs through the years including work on light alkanes. A good portion of his career involved developing commercial catalysts and processes to meet the ultra-low sulfur fuels standards that were rolled out around the world over the last decade. He has also been involved in a few upstream programs.
