Michael Carolan is currently the manager of the Ion Transport Membrane (ITM) Materials R&D group and the program manager of the ITM Syngas project at Air Products. Dr. Carolan joined Air Products in 1987 and has been involved in research and development of dense, ceramic ion transport membranes since then. Dr. Carolan initiated the development of Air Products’ ITM Oxygen technology. The ITM Oxygen program is currently engaged in a development program that is supported by the DOE. Dr. Carolan was also one of the initiators of Air Products’ ITM Syngas program. The DOE has also supported the ITM Syngas development program. He holds 36 US patents in the ITM field. He obtained his undergraduate degree from Princeton University and his Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from the University of California, Berkeley.
