Engineering design environments represent the conditions under which the engineered system is expected to be safe and functional during its intended service life. Traditionally, these environments have been based on historical records of environments (temperature, wind velocity, flood elevations, etc.) at the site, but climate change implies that future environments will have statistics different from those of the past. The session presents approaches to defining design environment for safety and functionality in the future.
