Carbon Abatement for Industrial Applications
Tuesday, October 22, 2013 - 6:00pm to 6:30pm
The current lack of effective cap and trade schemes has shifted the focus to reduce emissions from power plants and industrial facilities clearly from carbon dioxide storage to utilization. One of the significant opportunities for utilization is enhanced oil recovery which in a world of high oil prices and mature oil fields in North America is gaining momentum. CO2 capture and utilization in industrial applications is also becoming important; the economics are more favorable than power plants although the scale and overall capacity of CO2 emissions reduction is somewhat limited.
Linde is pursuing technology and solutions development in all three carbon capture pathways (pre-combustion, post-combustion and oxyfuel combustion) to address the critical needs of scale-up to large capacity and reduction of parasitic energy consumption and capital costs to make commercial opportunities viable. In addition, as a leader in industrial CO2 markets in several countries around the world, Linde has a portfolio of technologies and process plant offerings for the purification, compression and liquefaction of captured CO2 prior to transportation and storage.
Linde has developed significant project experience in CO2 capture and utilization solutions, including pilot demonstrations and scale-up to commercialization in conjunction with strategic partners in power generation, oil and gas and chemical industry. This presentation will outline some key projects and opportunities that Linde is pursuing.
