Long-Term Reliability Issues and Implications

Authors

Nethercutt, E. - Presenter, North American Electric Reliability Corp. (NERC)

This presentation will present the key findings of NERC's preliminary 2013 Long-Term Reliability Assessment data, including projections for peak demand, generation mix, and transmission developments during the next decade. This will include discussion of how these projections are expected to impact North American bulk power system reliability. Elliott will also discuss long-term emerging reliability issues and provide insights on how NERC and the industry are addressing these challenges. From accommodating high-levels of variable generation to the retirement of a significant amount of fossil-fired steam-driven generation, a massive change in resources on the bulk power system is anticipated in the coming years.
