Abstract

The wine production generates a large amount of organic wastes, such as skins and scrapes; lees; and vinasse [1], suitable for valorization. The anaerobic digestion produces a methane-rich biogas and and an organic by-product, a digestate, which requires pretreatment for later use for fertilization of fields or as compost. The Spouted Beds technology has been successfully applied for treatment of biomass wastes [2-6].

In this paper, a conical spouted bed has been applied for valorization of grape skins and scrapes wastes by anaerobic digestion. The digestión has been performed with different percentages of substrate and inoculum under temperature in the mesophilic and thermofilic ranges (between 35 and 55 ºC), for times between 3 and 6 weeks. The methane content in the generated biogas, measured by the Geotech Biogas-5000 analyzer, was higher than 52%.
