Division and Forum Awards honor individuals for excellence in their technical fields. A wide range of fields are represented.

Environmental Division Graduate Student Paper Award

Award

Plaques and $500, $300, and $200 for first, second and third place, respectively.

PresentationThe award is presented at a designated function of the Environmental Division at the AIChE Annual Meeting, which the winner is expected to attend.
Nomination Instructions

Selection criteria include:

  1. The graduate student must be a member of AIChE at the time of submission.
  2. The work presented must be carried out while the graduate student is enrolled at a university with an accredited chemical engineering program.
  3. The graduate student must be the primary author (faculty advisors may be co-authors).
  4. The paper must describe original research (experimental, numerical, or theoretical) or design; papers consisting of literature reviews are not permitted.
  5. The paper must be suitable for publication in a refereed journal.
  6. The paper must represent a contribution to environmental protection through the application of chemical engineering.
  7. The paper may not be submitted for another AIChE award this year.  It is permitted to submit a paper from a previous year if it has not already received an award.

Nomination for the award should include:

  • A single nomination letter detailing the student’s strengths and accomplishments
  • A single paper contributing to environmental science and engineering fundamentals or applications

Papers will be judged on quality, technical content, writing and organization. Nominations may be submitted by any member of AIChE. Faculty, Departments and graduate student research mentors are encouraged to nominate candidates. Nominations must be submitted to Kirti Yenkie (yenkie@rowan.edu), 1st Vice Chair, by July 1, 2024

Environmental Division Undergraduate Student Paper Award

PresentationThe award is presented at a designated function of the Environmental Division at either the AIChE Spring National Meeting or at the AIChE Annual Meeting.
Nomination Instructions

Selection criteria include:

  1. The nominee must be a full-time undergraduate in good standing at a college or university with an accredited program in chemical engineering, and must be a member of an AIChE Student Chapter.
  2. The work must be performed during the student's undergraduate enrollment, and the paper must be submitted prior to or within six months of graduation.
  3. The student must be the sole author of the paper, but faculty guidance is encouraged (if published, additional authors are accepted).
  4. The entry is judged primarily on depth and breadth of knowledge, originality, and the merits of the project results.
  5. The paper may not be submitted for another AIChE award this year.  It is permitted to submit a paper from a previous year if it has not already received an award.

Nomination Instructions

The nomination will remain active for three years. Eligibility criteria:



1. The applicant must hold active membership and participation in the Food, Pharmaceutical and Bioengineering Division of AIChE for at least the last two years.

2. Applicants must have initiated their independent career within 10 years of the application deadline. An independent career is considered to begin at the end of postdoctoral training or the end of Ph.D. studies if postdoctoral training is not pursued. These criteria apply to both academic and industrial applicants.

Eligibility/Requirements:

  • Candidate must be age 39 or less at the time of nomination.
  • Candidate must be a member of AIChE in good standing and a member of the Separations Division. Active participation in the Separations Division, while not required, will be considered during the selection process.
  • Nomination to include a current resume and/or documentation supporting the individual’s involvement and contributions to the separations disciplines. Nomination to include confirmation of the birth date of the nominee.
  • Nomination deadline to coincide with established deadlines for awards to be presented at the AChE’s fall annual meeting.
  • Current office holders of the Separations Division leadership are eligible for this award, if other criteria are also met.
  • Nominations will remain open as long as the candidate is eligible. Nominators are strongly encouraged to update their nominee’s files regularly.
  • This award may only be awarded to the same individual only once. Up to four supporting letters are required.
