SBE has awarded Elefterios Papoutsakis the 2012 James E. Bailey Award, endowed by Cytos Biotechnology. Papoutsakis has led a research lab in which focuses on interdisciplinary areas of systems biology, metabolic engineering, experimental and computational genomics with applications in stem-cell biology and prokaryotic biology for the production of biofuels and chemicals from biomass. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Microbiology and the American Association for the Advancement of Science and a founding fellow of the American Institue of Medical and Biological Engineering. Papoutsakis also serves on the advisory boards of four journals in the field of biotechnology and tissue engineering. He has authored several issued and pending patents and consults regularly and offers expert witness services in the field of biotechnology and more broadly, in the biomedical sciences.
Papoutsakis will be presenting the Bailey Lecture on Tuesday, October 30th at the AIChE Annual Meeting at 6:00 pm.
