Albert Romano is currently the Manager Business Performance -Chemicals at CSBP and has worked for the company for 20 years in a number of roles.
CSBP is part of Wesfarmers Chemicals, Energy & Fertilisers – a division of Wesfarmers. CSBP manufactures and supplies ammonium nitrate, ammonia and industrial chemicals to the Western Australian mining and industrial sectors. The company also supplies ammonium nitrate and emulsion products to the mining sector in the Bowen Basin coal fields through Queensland Nitrates (QNP), its joint venture with Dyno Nobel Asia Pacific.
Albert is currently working on a variety of chemicals growth and business performance initiatives for CSBP and has extensive operations management experience. For six years, Albert was CSBP’s Ammonium Nitrate Production Manager at the company’s Kwinana site where he was responsible for the management and operation of one of Western Australia’s largest integrated Class-A Major Hazard Facilities (MHF). The role included accountability for the area’s safety management, production reliability, chemical process management, storage and handling of CSBP’s security sensitive products, and for ensuring all MHF regulations were met, in addition to dangerous goods and environmental licenses.
In 2011 Albert worked as General Manager at Queensland Nitrates in Moura, Queensland, and like CSBP, this remote chemical processing plant also operates as a State regulated MHF.
Albert was heavily involved in the MHF commissioning activities of CSBP’s 2008 major ammonium nitrate (AN) expansion project, and has participated in an associate capacity with CSBP’s recent ammonium nitrate expansion project which has brought the company’s ammonium nitrate production capacity to 780,000 tonnes per annum.
He currently sits on the Kwinana Industries Council (KIC) Board and Executive Committee, representing CSBP as an industry member and KIC Vice President. His other industry commitments see him attending the Plastics and Chemicals Industries Association (PACIA) Economics and Trade Council, where he represents CSBP as an Australian chemicals manufacturer and trading industry. Albert is also a senior member of CSBP’s Chemicals Business Management Team.
