ASHLEY PENNINGTON, PhD, is the Chief of the Office of the National Coordinator at the Dept. of Homeland Security (DHS) Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), the U.S.’s Chemical Sector Risk Management Agency (SRMA). Pennington provides technical expertise relating to the supply chain, physical and cybersecurity, and climate resilience of critical infrastructure. Previously, she was an American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) Science & Technology Policy Fellow at the DOE’s Federal Energy Management Program, where she led the integration of fleet electrification, utility partnerships, and climate resilience. She served in the Naval Research Laboratory as a National Research Council Postdoctoral Engineer, where she created and analyzed materials for chemical warfare agent degradation, pesticide remediation, and sustainable fuel production. Pennington earned her BS in chemical and biological engineering at the Univ. of Colorado at Boulder and her MS and PhD in chemical and biochemical engineering at Rutgers Univ. She volunteers with the National Capital Section of AIChE, AIChE’s Public Affairs and Information Committee, AIChE’s Societal Impact Operating Council, AIChE’s K-12 Committee, the Accokeek Foundation, and the National Park Service.
