Professor and VILLUM Investigator
University of Copenhagen

Barbara Ann Halkier is a professor and VILLUM Investigator at Department of Plant and Environmental Sciences at University of Copenhagen. She has worked at University of Copenhagen since 1988, with the exception of three years as postdoc and visiting scientist at the Salk Institute, La Jolla, California. She obtained her PhD in 1988 at The Royal Veterinary and Agricultural University (now part of University of Copenhagen). She has published >160 peer-reviewed publications, many in high-ranking journals. Her research focuses on basic and applied aspects of plant secondary metabolites, particularly glucosinolates and their role in plant communication and survival. This includes mechanistic understanding of transport processes, metabolite sensing and protein-protein interaction in elicited responses. In addition, Barbara Ann Halkier is leading in the field of glucosinolate pathway and transport engineering in plants and microorganisms.
