Carlos R. Apesteguía is Full Professor at the National University of Litoral (UNL), School of Chemical Engineering (FIQ), and Member of the CONICET's Research Staff at the Institute of Research on Catalysis and Petrochemistry (INCAPE), Santa Fe, Argentina. Currently, he is also the Director of the Materials Science and Engineering Research Center (CenMat, FIQ, UNL) and Chairman of the Materials Engineering Department (FIQ, UNL). He received his Chemical Engineer degree from UNL and is Docteur Ingenieur of the University of Poitiers, France (1981). He was a 1991-1992 Visiting Professor at Corporate Research Laboratories, Exxon Research and Engineering Co., New Jersey, USA. He was the President of the Iberoamerican Federation of Catalysis Societies (1999-2004) and of the Argentine Catalysis Society (1996-2003). Professor Apesteguía received the Houssay Award 2007 from the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology of Argentina; the Engineering Award 2008 from the National Academy of Exact, Physical, and Natural Sciences of Argentina; the “Ing. Luis Huergo” 2007 Prize from the National Academy of Engineering, and the Career Trajectory Award, 2009, from the Argentine Catalysis Society. His current research projects include the development of novel catalytic materials for the synthesis of fine chemicals and the valorization of bioresources, as well as the use of metal supported catalysts in combustion technologies employed for environmentally benign processes.
