Dr. Kuo is a Professor of Department of Materials Science and Engineering, National Cheng Kung University (NCKU), Taiwan. He obtained his En.D. in Plastics Engineering of UMass Lowell in 2002. Before he joined NCKU in 2004, he worked as a senior engineer in a biomedical company in Massachusetts.
Dr. Kuo considers himself as a multidisciplinary researcher, who had BS degree in Chemical Engineering, and other careers in chemical synthesis, polymers, plastic process, sensors and biomedical materials. He currently focuses his research in the fields of submicron Janus particles, advanced electrospun nanofibers and more. For electrospun nanofibers, his team mostly works on inorganic-based electrospun nanofibers, including metals (silver, copper, …) and metal oxides (TiO2, ZnO, WO3, …). Targeting applications of these novel materials are in optoelectronic and medical devices, such as the solar fuels, photocatalytic hydrogen productions, EMI shielding, novel thermal management materials, and antibacterial membranes.
He serviced as the Department Chair in NCKU from 2019 to 2022. He also received a Distinguished Service Award from Materials Research Society-Taiwan (MRS-T) in 2020.
