Chris Hawkes joined IOGP as Safety Director in February 2016. In addition to facilitating the work of the Health, Safety, Security, Wells Experts and Subsea committees, Chris represents IOGP at international stakeholder meetings, including those with regulators and governments. Chris has 30 years of experience in the oil and gas industry with both Shell and BP. Chris trained as a Marine Engineer with Shell and spent 13 years at sea sailing on oil and gas tankers, rising to the rank of Chief Engineer. Chris has held a variety of roles in the Marine, Safety and Operational Risk and Upstream areas of the business, most recently with BP, including VP S&OR Audit, Developments Division, Upstream Safety Director and HSE Manager for BP in Angola. Chris is a qualified Marine Engineer and holds an MBA from the Curtin Graduate School of Business in Perth, Western Australia.
