Dr. Christopher S. Johnson is currently a Senior Chemist and an Argonne Distinguished Fellow at Argonne National Laboratory, specializing in the research & development of battery materials and battery systems with 32 years of experience. He is known worldwide for his development of state-of-art lithium-ion battery cathode materials, and recently, Si anodes, and sodium-ion batteries. Work on the domestic sourcing of battery materials is currently underway. He earned his Ph.D. in Chemistry from Northwestern University following undergraduate studies and a B.S. Chemistry at University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He retains a joint position as Senior Chemist At-Large and Lab Innovation Fellow at the University of Chicago. He has published over 153 publications (h-index 70), and 45 issued US patents. He has received the Battery Research Award from the International Battery Association in 2006, and a R&D 100 Award in 2009 for the Commercialization of the NMC Cathode for Lithium-ion Batteries. He is the 2018 recipient of the University of Chicago Argonne Distinguished Scientist Award, and is a Fellow of the Electrochemical Society.
