Christophe Catala is a seasoned Process Safety and Risk Management leader with over 20 years of experience driving global process safety management across the mining, metals, oil & gas, petrochemicals, and refining industries. As Chief Advisor, Process Safety at Rio Tinto, he leads a global team overseeing process safety management worldwide.
Christophe began his career as a safety engineer with Technip, where he developed a strong foundation in process safety and risk management. Over the years, he has held various leadership and management roles, gaining extensive experience in projects, operations, and corporate functions within diverse technical and cultural environments. Having lived and worked in France, Switzerland, Cameroon, and Canada, Christophe has a unique global perspective that enables him to navigate complex, multicultural projects with ease.
He holds a degree in Process Engineering from the Grenoble Institute of Technology (INP) in France, along with a Master’s degree in Environment and Industrial Risk Management from the Ecole Nationale Superieure de Chimie et Physique de Bordeaux (ENSCPB), France.
In addition to his leadership at Rio Tinto, Christophe is actively involved in shaping industry best practices as the Chair of the Process Safety Sub-Committee for Mining, Minerals, and Metals at the Center for Chemical Process Safety (CCPS)
