Dr. Spence earned his B.S. in chemistry from Grand Valley State University in Allendale, MI in 1992 and his Ph.D. in chemistry under the direction of Stan Crouch at Michigan State University in May of 1997. In August of that same year, he began his appointment as an Assistant Professor of Chemistry at Saint Louis University in St. Louis, MO. After earning tenure and promotion at SLU, he moved to Wayne State University in Detroit, MI in the fall of 2004 where he remained for three years before moving his labs back to Michigan State University in 2007. He is currently a Professor of Biomedical Engineering in the Institute for Quantitative Health Science & Engineering at Michigan State University.
