Daniel J. Benac, P.E., is a Certified Fire and Explosion Investigator (CFEI), an ASM Fellow, and a senior principal engineer at Baker Engineering and Risk Consultants, Inc., who manages BakerRisk’s materials laboratory, located in San Antonio, TX (Email: dbenac@bakerrisk.com). He has forty years of experience investigating and solving materials engineering and structural integrity problems for the oil and gas, refinery, ammonia, chemical, pipeline, nuclear, aerospace, and other industries. For the ammonia and fertilizer industries, he has led investigations of equipment, conducted mechanical integrity reviews, and provided technical support on material and process concerns. He is the program manager for the Ammonia and Fertilizer Joint Industry Program (A&F JIP), which is a resource for understanding damage mechanisms and mitigation options.
