Don Bartusiak

Don Bartusiak, PhD, is Chief Engineer, Process Control for ExxonMobil Research and Engineering. He has 33 years of experience with ExxonMobil, where he has worked on artificial intelligence, linear and nonlinear model predictive control, and real-time optimization in central engineering and manufacturing. Since the mid-1990s, he held supervisory or senior technical positions with responsibility for instrumentation, process analyzers, control systems, and control applications. Bartusiak received a BS from the Univ. of Pennsylvania and MS and PhD degrees from Lehigh Univ. Currently, he is a member of the International Federation of Automatic Control (IFAC) Technical Committee 6.1 for Chemical Process Control; a managing director on the International Society of Automation (ISA) Standards and Practices Board; and co-chair of the Open Process Automation Forum of The Open Group. In 2011, he received the Computing Practice Award from AIChE’s Computing and Systems Technology (CAST) Div. He was inducted into Control Engineering’s Automation Hall of Fame in 2015, and in 2016 he was named one of Smart Industry’s Top 50 Innovators. In 2018, he received the Excellence in Leadership Award from ISA. He was elected an IFAC Fellow in 2019. He has published ten journal articles and is co-inventor on five patents.
