Dr. Joseph J. Cramer is currently Director Emeritus, Program Development for AIChE where he was Director, Technical Programming from 1994 to early 2012.. In this capacity he worked with AIChE’s Program Committee to develop content for AIChE national meetings. Previously, he had more than 20 years experience with Stone and Webster Engineering as an environmental engineer, project manager and program manager. He also worked with Brown & Root and Bechtel as an air quality engineering department head. Dr. Cramer has extensive experience both as an expert witness and in managing others who present expert testimony. During his many years in industry, Dr. Cramer helped to develop a training program for those whose work assignments were likely to require the preparation and presentation of expert testimony. With an attorney colleague, he used this experience to design a two-day course which was offered as an AIChE short course for nearly ten years. Dr. Cramer received his BS and PhD from the University of Pennsylvania and a Masters in Chemical Engineering Practice from the MIT Practice School. He is a Fellow of AIChE, a licensed P.E. in Texas, and currently serves as 2019 Chair of the Management Division and vice chair of the Division’s programming. He also serves on the Admissions Committee, the Licensing and Professional Development Committee, the NCEES Chemical Engineering Examination Committee and occasionally on other ad hoc committees. Past service to the Institute includes a term on AIChE’s BOD (1993-1995), and assignments as meeting program chair for an AIChE national meeting (Summer of 1992) and as chair of AIChE’s Environmental Engineering Division (1991).
His greatest passion right now is for promoting professional licensing for chemical engineers.
