Dr. Paul Hintze

Dr. Paul Hintze is currently the Exploration Systems Development Office chief at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center. He received a B.S. in Chemistry from Louisiana State University and a Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of Colorado, Boulder.  He was awarded a National Research Council Resident Research Associateship to work at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in 2003 and then began working for NASA in 2005.  Dr. Hintze works on technology development projects that help enable human spaceflight.  He started his career working on projects that identified and developed materials for use in KSC’s unique launch environment. In addition, he used this knowledge to develop methods for building launch and landing pads on the Earth’s moon and Mars.  He believes in sustainable approaches to spaceflight operations, and as such works towards this goal by developing technologies for terrestrial and space use. He has led and contributed to projects in the field of in situ resource utilization, or ISRU, including the Trash to Gas project, which converts waste generated during human spaceflight into propellant.
