Dr. Richard Donovan is the Director of Research Development for Sustainable Smart Manufacturing at the California Institute for Telecommunications and Information Technologies at the University of California Irvine. At Calit2 he works with researchers from across the campus to create convergence research projects on themes ranging from astrophysics to nanotechnology. Prior to joining UCI he served as Senior Engineer and Scientist for the Sustainable Futures Institute at Michigan Technological University. At SFI he led the development of a host of programs ranging from Pan American (south central and north America) biofuel sustainability to citizen science for Great Lakes sustainability. His diverse publication record includes: multiphase continuum mechanics, applications of ML to composite materials constitutive laws, information theoretical approaches to ecosystem dynamics, smart manufacturing workforce development and ML reduced order modeling of electromagnetic field propagation for smart manufacturing
