Efrem Braun is currently a PhD candidate in the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at UC Berkeley. He graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in 2011 with two bachelors degrees: one from the School of Engineering & Applied Science with a major in Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, and another from the Wharton School with a concentration in Operations and Information Management. Following graduation, Efrem worked as a process engineer at Hemlock Semiconductor (a subsidiary of Dow Corning) for two years, performing modeling and experimental work to support pilot-scale and commercial-scale reactors. At Berkeley, he joined Berend Smit's group, where his current research interests lie in using molecular simulations to study gas separations in porous materials, work which has led to several publications (see his Google Scholar page for more information). During his graduate studies, Efrem was proud to have mentored two undergraduate students and one master's student and to have served as a graduate student instructor for three chemical engineering courses, work for which he won an Outstanding Graduate Student Instructor Award.
