Elizabeth Wayne is a TED Fellow and Assistant Professor at Carnegie Mellon University in Chemical Engineering and Biomedical Engineering. Elizabeth Wayne, PhD works at the interface of immunology and biomaterials engineering where her lab develops strategies to enhance therapeutics delivery and diagnostics tools. Dr. Wayne is currently developing models to explore how disease induced chronic inflammation alters macrophage interaction with biomaterials. The goal is to reverse engineer materials that can target disease modified monocyte/macrophages. Currently, she is applying these concepts to investigate air-pollution, lung regeneration, atherosclerosis, pre-eclampsia, and cancer.
