Dr. Tan is a Senior AI Expert in the Science and Technology Office (STO) of Merck KGaA and an adjunct senior researcher at Shanghai Artificial Research Institute (SARI). Prior to that, he was the senior researcher in Bytedance. He received his Ph.D.in Computer Science from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University in 2016. His main research interests are machine learning and its applications, including AI for biomedical platforms. Specifically, he is interested in designing and implementing dependable AI-enabled medical systems. Dr. Tan’s work also includes CV and NLP models’ application in scientific areas, e.g. organoid analysis and protein design. He has published more than 20 papers at leading conferences/journals. He has served as a reviewer for several leading conferences/journals including BIBM, AAAI, ICDM, ICCAPS and TNNLS. He also holds 5 Chinese patents and submits 4 US patents.
