Ferenc Darvas

Co-Founder
Flow Chemistry Society

Dr. Darvas acquired a master's degree in medicinal chemistry, then another in computer sciences, received his Ph.D. for the use artificial intelligence in drug design. Dr. Darvas is a serial inventor and entrepreneur, founder, and president of Darholding, Inc., one of the largest upstream technology networks in the CEE region. The network members export to over 70 countries. The network has affiliates/firms/spinoffs in the USA, UK, IE, with a track record since 1983. Dr. Darvas’s achievements include molecular modeling, process intensification, combinatorial chemistry, flow chemistry, nanotechnology, and space chemistry. He conceived the first industrialized solution-phase combinatorial synthesis technology (CMT) with ComGenex, the 1st European combichem firm which received the Innovation Grand Prize of Hungary in 2001. Dr. Darvas initiated and co-developed H-Cube®, the #1 selling flow reactor in the world. For the development of H-Cube®, ThalesNano received a prestigious 100’s award of the R&D Magazine (2005), the Innovation Award of the Hungarian Ministry of Industry (2006), and the Millennium Award of the Hungarian Patent Office (2009). In 2019, ThalesNano Energy, Inc., too, has been granted the 100’s award of the R&D Magazine for H–Genie for their novel lab hydrogen generator. Dr. Darvas was awarded Senator Honoris Causa by the University of Szeged, Hungary (2019), and a Fellow of the American Chemical Society (2016) for his achievements in and contributions to science in the field of chemistry research and innovation. Holder of over 130 patents, authored more than 240 papers and 5 books, served as professors in Hungary, Spain, Austria, and the USA. Currently, he is an associate professor at Florida International University. He is also the founder and Editorial Board member of the Journal of Flow Chemistry, initiator, and co-founder of the Flow Chemistry Society, Switzerland, where he is the Chairman.

Dr. Darvas is the founder of the Space Chemistry Consortium, one of the world's first Space Chemistry Symposium series (together with ACS). With Innostudio Inc., Dr. Darvas has initiated the successful protein crystallization and nanoformulation experiments on ISS in cooperation with JAMSS and Space Applications Services, as part of the first space manufacturing demonstration model of "Kirara." Samples were delivered and safely returned on SpaceX-19.
