Francisco González III is the project manager for the Hazardous Materials Research Program at the FRA’s Office of Research, Development, and Technology. Francisco has 31 years of experience with the FRA and has developed a diverse and extensive collaboration with industry and international partners.
Francisco has a strong working knowledge of domestic and international hazardous material transportation regulations (Transport Canada Regulations, Mexican Regulations and International Maritime Dangerous Goods Code). Francisco has worked closely with industry and Office of Safety partners and has established a partnership for government and industry research to improve tank car safety with contribution from all partners thus further leveraging limited federal research funds and update research needs of his program.
He is a member of several professional associations and actively participates on several committees for hazardous materials transportation.
Francisco has made an excellent job in planning the Hazardous Materials Research program to more fully meet the needs of the Office of Railroad Safety, and PHMSA, along with cooperating with the industry on projects of mutual interest. He identified areas of research needed to assist the Office of Railroad Safety in critical rulemaking.
