An effective leader for technology innovations and process improvements capable of idea discovery and following through implementation. Frank has made significant contributions to the theory of process integration via applying molecular analysis for process synthesis and operation optimization. His approach can reveal new insights for debottlenecking and technology development based on the predictive power of molecular modeling and mathematic superstructure optimization. More importantly, Frank has demonstrated his methods through practical applications by grassroots design of the most efficient refinery complex and revamp improvements for existing plants as well as operation optimization to generated significant benefits in economic margin, energy savings and emission reductions for industrial companies worldwide. Frank published seminal articles, patents and widely used books in the field. That is the reason he is the leader in process modeling, design and operation optimization.
Frank was the recipient of US National Energy Sustainability Award by AIChE due to his contributions. He also received Honeywell Technical Leadership Award and Patent of the Year Award. Published more than 100+ papers and 70+ USA patents granted. His latest four books include "Energy and Process Optimization for the Process Industries", "Hydroprocessing for Clean Energy" and "Efficient Petrochemical Processes", "Digitalization and Analytics for Smart Plant", all published by Wiley and endorsed by AICHE. He is the co-founder and 1st Conference Chair for ECI International Conference: CO2 Summit -Technology and Opportunity.
His major achievements include:
• Led a consultant team in supporting a major US refinery for process optimization, energy management and troubleshooting. Achieved major cost saving with great customer satisfaction.
• Led grassroots design of several refining and petrochemical complexes which are ranked as the top energy efficient designs worldwide.
• Provided optimization services for customers worldwide based on his fit-for-purpose modeling and optimization approach, and achieved large throughput increase, yield improvements and energy savings.
• Led an engineering innovation team and developed systematic innovation methodology from ideation, evaluation and implementation. Application of this methodology resulted in major improvements to key refining and petrochemical technologies with major energy saving and capital neutral.
