G. Bartow “Bart” Lewis, retired from Aera Energy in 2016 after a 43-year career in the oil and gas industry. Lewis began his career in 1973 as a rotating equipment mechanic after completing two years of college. Working initially as a contract mechanic, Lewis gained expertise on the installation and repair of an array of rotating equipment ranging from steam-driven compressors to 4,500 hp pumps. In 1996, Lewis joined CalResources (Shell Oil in California) as a mechanic. In 1997, Shell and ExxonMobil joined operations forming Aera Energy. Lewis worked for Aera for the next 21 years. From 1996 through 2005, he was the lead mechanic for Ventura operations. He then moved into the Logistics Specialist position. In that role, he oversaw rotating equipment maintenance practices. Lewis took the lead for several total process reliability (TPR) teams, including condition-based monitoring (CBM), preventive maintenance optimization (PMO), and was the co-lead in several other reliability processes. As the lead of CBM, Lewis achieved the highest CBM audit score within Aera. Lewis received commendations for his commitment to excellence and work in reliability. In 2012, at the SAP-Centric EAM Conference, Lewis presented a process that he had implemented, “Improving Preventive Maintenance Using Performance Based Data.”
