He has over 40 years of experience designing agitation systems, specializing in fermentation, bioreactors, and continuous-flow reactors. He received a BS in chemical engineering from the Univ. of Cincinnati in 1976 and has taken a course on fermentation biotechnology at the Center for Professional Advancement. He is a member of AIChE, the International Society for Pharmaceutical Engineering (ISPE), the Society for Industrial Microbiology and Biotechnology, and the American Chamber of Commerce in Shanghai. He is a subject matter expert (SME) with ISPE. Benz is a registered professional engineer in Ohio and a member of American Mensa.
