Dr. Rifai is John and Rebecca Moores Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Houston (UH). She is Director of the Hurricane Resilience Research Institute (HuRRI), a multi-institution research hub focusing on resilience to natural disasters. Dr. Rifai directs the Environmental Engineering graduate program at UH and has published widely on topics related to infrastructure resilience, sustainability, and the fate and transport of chemicals in the environment. She is a member of the Galveston Bay Council, a coordinating body supporting the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality in implementing the Galveston Bay Plan.
