Heinrich Jaeger is the William J. Friedman and Alicia Townsend Professor of Physics at the University of Chicago. He is one of the leading scientists in the field of granular materials, with over 30 years of research experience and major contributions to the understanding of granular size separation, vibratory compaction, contact charging, rheology, and particle shape design. Jaeger received his PhD. from the University of Minnesota in 1987 and joined the faculty at the University of Chicago in 1991. He was Director of the Chicago Materials Research Center from 2001-2006 and of the interdisciplinary James Franck Institute from 2007-2010.
