Henry T. (Hank) Kohlbrand is the principal of HT Consulting, a consulting firm specializing in new business growth, innovation, and process technology. Prior to establishing his firm he was the Global R&D Director for Process & Manufacturing Technology R&D at The Dow Chemical Company. He was responsible for the Corporate R&D Process Technology Portfolio and successful transition of new processes and products from R&D into operations. Prior to this role, Hank was responsible for Engineering & Process Sciences R&D, a group of over 250 people in the U.S., India, China, and Europe. Previously, Hank was the Business R&D director for New Businesses, which included the Industrial Biomaterials Platform, Industrial Biotechnology, Electronics Materials, and PharmaTechnologies with both business and R&D responsibilities. Hank has also been Dow’s global director of external technology and intellectual asset management and was responsible for external R&D and for Dow's Offices of Science & Technology in Europe and the Pacific and included all of Dow’s cooperative research activities with universities, small companies and government laboratories.
He joined Dow in 1974 after receiving a BSChE from Illinois Institute of Technology. He is a Fellow of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE), and an honorary Fellow of the Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE), member of the American Chemical Society (ACS) and the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS). Hank has served on the Board of Directors of AICHE and was the 2010 President of the AIChE board of directors. He completed an executive management program at Babson College in 1995 and also did business coursework at IMD Business School.
Hank is an internationally recognized expert in reactive chemicals engineering and process-scale up and his technical interests also include modeling and design. During his career, he has been involved in many areas of product technology including engineering plastics, antimicrobials, agriculturalchemicals, organic chemicals and advanced materials. Over the years he has been an invited speaker at numerous conferences and technical management meetings.
