Herb is Head of Fermentation Automation at Ginkgo Bioworks. In this role, Herb is responsible for identifying, developing, and onboarding new technologies and methods to further enhance the capabilities and performance of Ginkgo's fermentation platform. Herb previously founded and served as CEO of Bitome which was acquired by Ginkgo in 2022. He received his BSc from University of Maine and his MSc in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Virginia where his research focused on development of micro NMR instrumentation for life science applications.
