Jakob is one of the founding members of Biosynthetic Technologies (BT) and served as the company’s Chief Technical Officer until the company was acquired by the Heritage Group in 2018. Jakob now serves as the President of Biosynthetic Technologies Food Drug and Personal Care and continues to support business development or corporate strategy efforts. He is named on over 30 patents and oversaw the development of the company’s products and IP portfolio. He initiated a strategy around developing products that could offer both environmental and performance benefits to not sacrifice product quality for sustainability. Jakob helped raise 10’s of millions of dollars for the company and closely managed due diligence efforts during fund raising efforts. During his time at BT, he helped develop one of the first motor oils using biodegradable base oil that was approved by both the American Petroleum Institute (API) for performance and the USDA’s BioPreferred Program for bio-content. Jakob now often speaks at conferences to share his experience and latest efforts in the world of sustainability.
Jakob is a professional engineer with a license in chemical engineering. He sits on the advisory board for the Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering Department and is a member of the Leadership Council at the University of California Irvine. He has served as an industry expert for the US Government to audit federal research and development efforts. He began his career at Jacobs Engineering where he specialized in energy efficiency and process improvement projects for the oil and gas industry. Jakob received a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from the University of California Irvine.
Jakob volunteers some of his free time to coach youth sports teams and looks to support families dealing with pediatric cancer.
