Jane Kucera has 41 years of experience with membranes for water and wastewater treatment (Email: Jkucera@ecolab.com). She began her membrane work in the Seawater Lab at the Univ. of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), where she earned her MS in chemical engineering in 1984. She also received a BA in chemistry from Linfield College (now Linfield Univ.). After graduate school, Kucera joined Bend Research, Inc., where she served as project leader executing several NASA contracts for membrane-based water recovery/recycle/reuse projects for the International Space Station. In 2000, she designed the Honouliuli Wastewater Reclamation Facility for the City of Honolulu, HI, while working for USFilter. She is currently a senior technical consultant with Nalco Water, an Ecolab Company, where she designs water use and wastewater reuse facilities. She has authored two books, Reverse Osmosis (3rd edition, 2023) and Desalination: Water from Water (2nd edition, 2019, as editor), and has contributed chapters to several other volumes. Kucera is active in the International Water Conference (IWC) and is the 2023 Conference General Chair. She was honored with the 2021 Award of Merit presented by the Engineers’ Society of Western Pennsylvania for her work in the water treatment industry and contributions to the IWC. She has a teaching credential from the State of California and has taught chemistry at Linfield College, Los Angeles Valley College, and Central Oregon Community College.
