Jeffrey L. Silverstein, PhD (Phone: 201-739-6850; Email: jlsilverstein@optonline.net), holds a PhD in chemical engineering from The City College of New York and has more than 35 years of experience as a process analyst with American Cyanamid Company/Cytec Industries. He is now a private consultant under the business name Process Simulation Express LLC, providing process engineering and process analysis services for small- to medium-sized chemical companies. Silverstein specializes in process simulation, design, and analysis. His expertise is in distillation systems. He was the in-house distillation expert for Cytec and was involved in the simulation, analysis, troubleshooting, and design of all major batch and continuous distillation systems in the company. He has extensive experience in process development. Silverstein works with research chemists and engineers to develop process concepts and evaluate alternate process routes by simulation so that the most technically feasible, environmentally friendly, and economically viable processes are chosen for implementation. His goal is to bring an engineering viewpoint to the research project at an early stage so that each project is always on target to be industrially practical and economical.
