John Roach is Senior Vice President of Strategic Development & Technology for Valero Energy Corporation. John received his Bachelor of Science degree in engineering from the University of Iowa in Iowa City, Iowa in 1978. Prior to joining Valero Energy Corporation in May 2000, he worked for Exxon for 22 years in a variety of technical, commercial, and operational assignments in Baytown, Texas, Houston, Texas, Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and Benicia, California.
In May 2000, John joined Valero Energy Corporation and was promoted to Vice President and General Manager of the Benicia Refinery. In September 2002, John moved to the position of Vice President of Strategic Development & Technology. In June of 2008, John was promoted to his current position of Senior Vice President. John’s group is responsible for the development of Strategic Planning, including Valero’s Tier II and III Gasoline, Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel, Benzene Reduction, and other key compliance and profitability initiatives.
John is actively involved in several community organizations and is currently on the Board Vice President for Roy Maas’ Youth Alternatives. John is a member of Tau Beta Pi and a registered Professional Engineer in the State of Texas. John has coached youth sports for many years. A native of Fairfield, Iowa, John resides in San Antonio, Texas with his wife Susan. Their two daughters, Regina age 29, is a veterinarian in Walnut Creek, California, and Erika, age 26 is an accountant in Houston, Texas.
