Dr. Jonathan Cumming is a Professor of Biology at West Virginia University (WVU). His research investigates the complex interactions between plant roots, soils, and symbiotic mycorrhizal fungi, currently leading a biofuels feedstock program focusing on drought resistance in poplar and acid soils resistance in poplar and willow. Dr. Cumming trains undergraduate and graduate students in ecophysiological methods and approaches through his teaching in Plant Physiology, Stress Physiology of Plants, Water and Nutrient Relations of Plants, and Preparing Future Faculty. He has been recognized as an Eberly College Outstanding Teacher, a WVU Foundation Outstanding Teacher, and named a National Academy of Sciences Education Fellow.
