José Roberto Nunhez is a Professor of Chemical Engineering at the State University of Campinas (UNICAMP) and Head of the Computational Fluid Dynamics Laboratory (L CFD) at UNICAMP. Prof. Nunhez is an active researcher in the Mixing and Petrochemical Processes areas, mainly with the use of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD). He has published more than two hundred works including research articles, patents, books, book chapters, and conference proceedings. He co-authored the only book in Mixing in Portuguese language entitled “Agitação e Mistura na Indústria”. He is also co-authors the chapter “Heat Transfer in Stirred Tanks” in the book “Advances of Industrial Mixing – A Companion to the Handbook of Industrial Mixing” published by Wiley in 2015.
Prof. Nunhez was a Consultant in Brazil for TOTAL Paris working for the Direction Scientifique in Paris during the years 2013 and 2014. He has consulted for several Chemical and Petrochemical industries. His group developed an in-house three-dimensional CFD model to study soluble effluent dispersion in rivers, which has been used in consulting works to evaluate the environmental impact of industries effluent emissions in river sections. He has also organized and ministered several courses on Mixing that is mainly attended by industry professionals.
Prof. Nunhez has been recipient of several awards, including advisor of the best PhD thesis in Brazil in 2006, according to the Brazilian Society of Chemical Engineers (ABEQ). He was the main organizer of the SYMPOSIUM ON CFD IN CHEMICAL ENGINEERING AND INDUSTRIAL PROCESSES at the 8th WCCE (World Congress of Chemical Engineering) held in Montreal in 2009. He was the Guest Editor of Volume 89, 4th issue of the Canadian Journal of Chemical Engineering, which published a Special Issue Section with papers presented at the CFD Symposium at the 8th WCCE. He is also the main organizer of the Symposium CFD IN CHEMICAL ENGINEERING: CHEMICAL PROCESSES, EQUIPMENT DESIGN AND OPTIMIZATION, at the 10th WCCE, to be held on October 1-5, 2017, in Barcelona, Spain.
