Kara McKinley is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Stem Cell and Regenerative Biology at Harvard University and principal faculty of the Harvard Stem Cell Institute. Her lab studies how the uterine lining (endometrium) regenerates after menstruation with the goal of improving care for people with endometrial pathologies and/or menstrual experiences that interfere with their quality of life. She received her Ph.D. from MIT in 2016 under the mentorship of Iain Cheeseman. She performed postdoctoral training in the laboratories of Ron Vale and Ophir Klein at the University of California, San Francisco. She is also the founder of Leading Edge, an initiative to improve the gender diversity of faculty in the biomedical sciences.
