Kathy Kas is The Dow Chemical Company’s Environmental, Health and Safety Fellow. Kathy has over 37 years of industrial with Dow as well as the Rohm and Haas Company. Her areas of expertise include Process Safety hazard identification and risk management, training, auditing, and loss prevention engineering.

Kathy has over 17 years of experience in the field of Process Safety. Prior to being named Fellow, Kathy was the Expertise Discipline Leader for the Process Safety Technology Center, where she managed the group of Dow’s global subject matter experts in the field of Process Safety. Previous Process Safety engagements included Process Safety Technology Leader positions supporting the Dow Coating Materials and Electronic Materials businesses as well as a Risk Analyst role at Rohm and Haas. Before embarking on her Process Safety career, Kathy held roles in manufacturing, Research & Development, scale-up, production leadership, business development, and finance. 

Kathy is a Fellow of both the American Institute of Chemical Engineers and the Center for Chemical Process Safety (CCPS). She is a member of the AIChE Safety & Health Division and has chaired Loss Prevention Symposium sessions for over a decade. She represents Dow on the CCPS Technical Steering Committee and is a member of the editorial board of Process Safety Progress. Kathy co-edited the CCPS book Guidelines for Initiating Events and Independent Protection Layers in Layer of Protection Analysis and participated in the development of other texts, including the newly released Managing Cybersecurity in the Process Industries: A Risk-Based Approach.  

Kathy earned her BChE from the University of Delaware and her MBA from Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey. She is a licensed Professional Engineer in three states and a Center for Chemical Process Safety (CCPS) Certified Process Safety Professional (CCPSC).
